03 / プロジェクト基本情報
概要Part of a A$21.4 million Australia–ADB investment to rebuild the boat harbours on Tuvalu's outer islands of Nui and Niutao with climate-resilient wharves, ramps, cargo sheds and passenger terminals. The two communities depend entirely on sea shipments through the capital for food, supplies, schooling and healthcare; the Niutao harbour opened in February 2026.
介入手法The Nui & Niutao Outer Islands Boat Harbour Upgrade Project sits within the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific (AIFFP) 'Enhancing Boat Harbours Across Tuvalu' investment — an Australian contribution of A$21.4 million (about US$15 million), delivered with the Asian Development Bank and the Government of Tuvalu and linked to ADB's Outer Island Maritime Infrastructure Project — announced August 2023. On Niutao: dredging of a sea-access channel and basin and construction of a new wharf and passenger terminal. On Nui: a new climate-resilient boat ramp, cargo shed and passenger terminal. Works also cover navigation channels, boat ramps, passenger terminals, cargo sheds and shoreline reclamation, with climate-smart design for sea-level rise and extreme weather. The harbours strengthen inter-island transport of food, supplies and essential services between the capital, Funafuti, and the outer islands, improving access to markets, schools and healthcare for remote communities that depend entirely on shipments through Funafuti. The Ministry of Transport, Energy and Tourism (MTET) is the executing agency; civil works were delivered by engineering consultant Haskoning, with about 10% of the local workforce women. The Niutao harbour — the programme's third and final outer-island workboat harbour — opened 9 February 2026.
