概要A Taiwanese technical mission helping Tuvalu grow more fruit and vegetables: demonstration gardens on Funafuti and Vaitupu, training for farmers and extension officers, home gardens, composting, and nutrition and cooking lessons for school students. By December 2024 the project had produced about 250 tons of produce and over a million seedlings; the OECD record's amount could not be tied to a published project cost.
介入手法This project is to improve the health of the people of our diplomatic allies Tuvalu by assisting in increasing the production of fruits and vegetables, promoting the cultivation technology of outer islands, and publicizing the concept of nutrition and healthy diet. The 4 project content are as follows: 1. Instruct the cultivation techniques of fruits and vegetables in the Hope Garden of Vaitupu outer island, assist in the demonstration of the cultivation of fruits and vegetables in the garden of Motufoua Secondary School, and provide stable vegetable and fruit for the school group meals and the islanders, 2. Enhance the cultivation of climate resilient agriculture and the technical capabilities of agricultural extension officer in the outer islands, 3. Guide the fruit and vegetable cultivation demonstration of the Friendship Garden on the Funafuti island, and establish a fruit and vegetable production area on the Funafala islet to increase the types and quantities of fruit and vegetables in the market, 4. Organize fruit and vegetable nutrition promotion, cooking and competition activities to increase interest in fruit and vegetable consumption, Short-term nutrition professionals are also dispatched to investigate the actual intake of fruits and vegetables, multiple dietary scores, nutritional knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of the beneficiary students.
Project detail (TaiwanICDF project pages): this project ran from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2024, executed by the Taiwan Technical Mission in Tuvalu with the Ministry of Local Government and Agriculture, and follows the Horticulture Expansion Project (2015-2020) and precedes the 2025-2029 'Expansion of Agricultural Production and Promotion of Nutritional Balance Project'. The gardens at Funafuti (Friendship Garden) and Vaitupu (Hope Garden) were described in November 2020 as the only source of fresh fruits and vegetables in Tuvalu, yielding nearly 60 tons a year. Targets (TaiwanICDF): 920,000 seedlings and 246 metric tons of fruits and vegetables; 32 workshops training 128 people; 12 demonstrations; 4 reports on the outer islands; 20 home gardens on Funafuti and 10 on Vaitupu; 8 nutrition and cooking demonstrations; students at Motufoua Secondary School eating 400 grams of produce a day so that their dietary-diversity score reaches 5; 1,020 metric tons of compost; 2 raised-garden and pot-cultivation demonstration areas; 36 rainwater collection buckets; 1 micro-weather station; and the gardens supplying 70% of Funafuti's fruit and vegetable demand and 70% of the school group meals. Results to December 2024 (TaiwanICDF): 1,019,488 seedlings, 250.42 metric tons of fruits and vegetables, 1,087.42 metric tons of compost, 31 workshops, 40 home gardens and 11 nutrition and cooking demonstrations — the seedling, production, compost and home-garden targets were met or exceeded, the workshop target (32) was one short. Earlier phase to December 2020: 1,560,778 seedlings, about 278 tons of produce, 1,587 tons of compost and 47 workshops over six years; successor phase to December 2025: 309,157 seedlings, 72.19 tons of produce, 339.99 tons of compost and 12 workshops in its first year. Attribution: the OECD CRS amount (USD 968,902, Chinese Taipei) cannot be matched to a budget in these pages; TaiwanICDF's project pages publish no project cost. Not found: the project cost, the number of people reached, the nutrition-survey results (dietary scores) and the identity of beneficiary households.
